Adepticon 2011 Webcart Now Open

The Adepticon 2011 web cart is open for business.  I will have a busy year ahead of me.  Friday I teach 2 sessions of my Hirst Arts Seminar.  Come learn about tips and tricks with Hirst Arts molds, or just good fun for anyone who wants to get their feet wet in the plaster hobby.  Saturday and Sunday are the Warhammer Ancients events – first Singles, then Team.

The big news of the day is the announcement of the Crystal Brush awards and a shocking $10,000 first prize.  Cool Mini Or Not is sponsoring the competition and will be vending at Adepticon.  I’ll need to set a few bucks aside for bizarro Euro imports.

WAB Abbasid Army List

Recently, I’ve had the opportunity to play a number of WAB games.  My current list is a later Abbasid with a large portion of Ghulams and all sorts of shooting.  My main opponents run large blocks of troops – either Saxon or Norman, which is causing a bit of trouble with my mobile shooting list.  I had not intended to play bob and weave, but getting a flank charge with cavalry is nearly impossible against a shield wall army.

Playing the Later Abbasid is part of the problem.  The list requires two units of Turcoman Cav – or as I like to call them, Super Cav.  BS4 Nomad cavalry with no move and shoot penalty and Parthan Shot is a bit of a head ache for my opponents.   I may play around with an Early Abbasid list which would allow me to cut back on Turcoman.

Update:  after learning how ineffective a formed unit of less than 5 figures is, I’ve grown the Volunteer cav to 8 figures at the cost of a few Junior Turks.
